A local overflow exists in the Quake 2 server. The server console fails to check input sizes for several items, each resulting in a buffer overflow. With a specially crafted request, an attacker can cause the server to crash, resulting in a loss of availability.
Currently, there are no known upgrades, patches, or workarounds available to correct this issue.
